We are getting in the holiday spirit by looking back on some fun crafts we've done at camp that are great to try with your child! Here are some DIY crafts that are fun and easy to make, and require simple materials. They make for great holiday crafts for kids and more decorations to have in your home!
Festive Train
Materials:
9 popsicle sticks
Black paper
Shiny red paper
String
Hot glue
How to Make:
Glue 5 popsicle sticks together so they are in a rectangle form
Glue two popsicle sticks to the top of the rectangle and one on top connecting the two, creating a window.
Now you will grab your shiny red paper, and cut out a chimney and a small triangle to be the tip.
Glue the chimney to the front of the train in front of the window.
Then glue the triangle onto the bottom few popsicle sticks to be the tip at the front of the train.
Cut out three circles of the same size with black paper for wheels. Then glue that onto the bottom two popsicle sticks of the rectangle, covering the triangle a bit.
Take one more popsicle stick and glue it across the three wheels.
Now you will add extra decorations - add a decorative Christmas bow to the front just under the chimney.
Add some stars with extra paper to the top for something extra!
Add a sting to the top in a loop so the decoration can be hung.
Reindeer
Materials:
Brown paper
Toilet paper roll
Gold gift ribbon
Green and brown paint
Googly eyes
Red pom pom
How to Make:
Take your toilet paper roll and paint the top 2/3 quarters brown, and the remainder at the bottom green.
Grab some gold gift ribbon, or another ribbon that you have in the house and glue it around the roll where the brown and green paint meet.
Cut out two antlers, and glue them to the top back of the toilet paper roll.
Finally, glue goggly eyes near the top for the eyes and add a red pom pom underneath for the nose!
Holiday Craft For Kids: 3D Ornament
Materials:
Different colours of paper
Little gems
White paper for snowflakes or cut outs
How to Make:
Take three colours of paper for the ornament, and cut three circles (one of each colour) all the same size. Then fold each circle in half.
Take your first circle and glue one half to the background paper, and have one half standing up.
Next, take your second folded paper and glue one side to the first circle.
Then, you will take your third folded circle. Glue one side of the third circle to the other side of the second circle. Then glue the other side of the third circle down on the paper.
Grab black paper (or a colour of your choice) and cut a slim rectangle and glue it horizontally on top of the ornament.
to add something extra, grab some small gems to glue them onto the rectangle.
Cut a long strip of paper and glue one side to the top of the ornament and the other side at the top of the paper, creating the effect of the ornament hanging on a string.
Lastly, cut out some small snowflakes or grab some pre cut ones to glue around the ornament to make it even more festive!
Christmas Tree
Materials:
Black paper or a colour for the background
A few shades of green paper, brown paper, yellow paper.
Paint
How to Make:
Pick your construction paper for the background, cut it in half for a smaller rectangle
Cut out eight circles of paper two smaller, six bigger
Fold those eight circles in a half
Take your paper for the back ground and glue the folded circles on in a diagonal pointing to top centre, creating a tree shape- two smaller circles on top.
Cut out a tree stump and glue it on the bottom of the tree
With a few different colours of paint, put a few points on each circle of the tree- to create decorations
Lastly, cut out a star shape and glue to the top of the tree!
Christmas Portrait
Materials:
Paper plate
Paint
Colourful paper
Cotton Balls
How to Make:
Cut a triangle in the middle of the plate to create a Christmas tree shape
Paint the background a colour of your choice
Use white paint to create a snow fall in the background
Once that is dry, cut out a tree stump shape with brown paper and glue it under the tree
Now, take a few different colours of construction paper and cut it into strips, and glue them on the back of the plate over the Christmas tree shape - so the tree is colourful!
Finally, with a hot glue gun stick the cotton balls onto the bottom the plate under the tree stump. Cut out a star or use a sticker, and stick it at the top of the tree!
Snowman
Materials:
Blue, orange, green - or colours of your choice
Two cotton pads
Markers or paint for face and buttons on snowman
White paper, or snowflake cutouts
Glue
How to Make:
Cut a piece of construction paper in half for the background
Take one of the cotton pads and glue it to the centre bottom half of the paper
Cut out two small rectangles using green paper (or colour of your choice) and glue to the top of that cotton pad going off to the side, as a scarf.
Take your second cotton pad and glue it above the first one, overlapping a bit so it covers the top of the scarf.
Take some orange paper and cut a slim triangle shape to be the carrot for the snowman! Glue the carrot onto the top of the cotton pads.
Grab some markers to use for the extra details. Draw some buttons on the bottom cotton pad. Use the markers to add a face to the top cotton pad as well!
Lastly cut out little snowflakes, or use pre-cut ones and stick them around the snowman!
